Timeline

Although I said that the next entry would be about the French army, I noted that my timeline is out of alignment with itself. So here is the proper timeline:

  • 1837- Charles Babage, living in in French, designed his second so called "computing engine", The Analytically Engine.

  • 1838- Louis-Mathieu Mole heleped to fund Babage's work, an act that lad to his downfall as prime minister of the Monarchy of France.

  • 1848- After some rough political times in French, a new republic was founded. Napoleon III adopted Babage and his work. The Engine was done at this stage and Babage was working on a new smaller model, however Le Motor de La Pensee brought about the creation of the first Autometa since De Vinci's days.

  • 1851- The Crystal Palace great exhibitionism, where the marvels of technology were introduced. By this point all major nations, aside from the British Empire, had a Thinking Engine. At the exhibition Queen Victoria ordered the scientific establishment at Oxford to esquire an Engine and research it.
  • 1853- The British send a battleship into the Black sea, the French reinforce their fortifications in the Holly Land while the Russians send a fleet to the Mediterranean coast. The Crimean war has began and it wont be over soon.

Heroes of the Crimean: The Background

Heroes of the Crimean is the latest iteration of a board/war game that I have been working on since I was 10. At its current iteration its a general combat system that uses resources management as an integral part of combat. Heroes of the Crimean is the steampunk flavored theme for the game. I have more ideas for themes (Sci-Fi and Fantasy) but not really as finalized as HotC.

Thought this blog I will post more world background and rules about the game.

The Crimean War was a real world conflict at the mid 19th century. The conflict was reckoned to be the first truly modern war with it's use of current modern technology, such as railways and telegraph.
The war was fought between The Russia Empire and the French Empire, allied by the Ottoman Empire and the British Empire.

The steampunk element comes into effect when the Analytically Engine, designed by Englishman Charles Babbage, was created in France. The Engine allowed the French to gleam more advanced designs from the basic clockwork of the time. by the time the Crystal Palace World Fair rolled in, the French Empire was the most technologically advance nation in Europe, and effectively the world.
Through commerce and self development, other nations got the Analytically Engine technology. The Portuguese created a fleet of flying ships, the Austrian created an army of ballerina-like mechanized infantry, the Danish created a force of arctic-survival bear-like monstrosities and the Americana  created large cannons powered by slaves.
The main four forces that though in the Crimean War will be detailed at a later date.

That is the main premise of the setting. It is not allot more detailed then that. Next I will detail the French army.

Let us begin

What is this? Who am I? and Why am I writing stuff?

Hello to the internet, or at least that part of it that reads this, my name is Haggai. My handle on the web is Haxxx or Haxxx5 and this point forward I will be referred as such.
I'm 20 years old as of writing this post and currently serving in the IDF. I live near the Gaza strip on a Kibbutz. I'm not really political and I don't want this blog to be political.
I've been a role-player for the last 8 years and I mostly GMed. I mainly listen to varies Metal (mostly Folk) and read Sci-Fi literature (Now I'm waiting to the new Dresden files book, the new Laundry book and the New Discworld book). I also collect Transformers and play board games. And... I'm a geek.

So what is this blog? This is my writing and design blog. I'm a very immature writer and game designer. This is the place for me to put my stories and game designs and also the place to push me forward and actually writ down my ideas.

A couple of warnings:

  • English is not my first language. I am pretty fluent but if I have writing or grammar mistakes, or it seem I don't use punctuation correctly, that's why.
  • As I wrote above, I live in Israel near the Gaza strip and am serving in the IDF. I don't wish to get political in this blog. What I will say is that I am an atheist and am annoyed by idealists of all sorts (the avidly religious, the fanatic atheist, the pushy vegan and the extremely political.
  • I swear slightly more then the average person but more for emphasis then anger. I will not censor myself.
  • My writing is pretty poor. Previously I mainly wrote to English class at school (five years ago). If my writings (songs, stories, designs...) seem bad, unfinished and pretty disgustingly bad, that's because THEY ARE, but I will improve. Hopefully.
  • I will try to keep this as a weekly or by weekly project. If I don't have new material I will upload old stuff I wrote way back then.
I'm calling the ground rules for me posting now. I have, locked in my brain at the moment, five or six projects and a couple of old projects that lay half finished. I will group my posts by the project.
The five projects are:
  • Heroes of the Crimean- A steampunk board game and setting with huge mechas.
  • Kai- An Asian inspired fantasy setting.
  • ParaEarth- A modern Sci-Fi conspiracy setting.
  • From Atop the Shelf- Short stories of realy poor transformers fanfic with a really poor perception of the cannon.
There may be more but for the time I'm writing this post those are the large projects.

Tomorrow will be the first proper first post.
Thank you for reading and thank you for reading.
